about this artist
Artist: Robert Parker
About the artist: Selecting and storing the right wood is the key to fine turned wood pieces. Robert has a large collection of his own trees as well as scouring English woods such as beech, elm, oak and yew.

Drying of the timber is crucial and can take years. Some is lost due to distortion or splitting. bowls are turned in two stages, the "roughing" stage, turned to 2 to 2.5 inches thick and then allowed to dry. The second stage returns the bowl to the lathe for the final design, sanding and finishing.

Robert's pieces are simple and classical. They can be used every day or simply admired, demonstrating as they do the wood turner's skill in its highest from.
