about this artist
Artist: Karl Taylor
About the artist: Brought up in Penzance, Karl explored busy harbours and went beachcombing, sparking his interst in nature. By eleven he was a budding ornithologist.

After receiving an outstanding achievement in wildlife illustration and design at Carmarthen Art College, he moved to Bristol to concentrate on full time painting. In 1992 he became the first wildlife artist to exhibit at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
He has won many awards for his wildlife art in the UK and the US. He is a frequent Artist in Residence at the Nature in Art Museum in Gloucestershire, where his work is also included in their regular mixed shows.
He says " I have spent many years observing birds and other wildlife, though much of my work reflects a long held interest in how they successfully exist alongside man. This has become more apparent since moving back near the coast perhaps bringing out those boyhood memories."
To quote Peter Slade, gallery owner, "Although there are many artists in the field of wildlife painting, there are few who can match the originality of Karl Taylor"
