Emma Rimer
Emma, now living in Arundel, graduated from Bath College of Art And Design in 1995 and started a graphic design business. Her main client was the skincare brand, Dermalogica, for whom she created their iconic packaging design.
In 2010 Emma returned to her first love, painting, and later that year she "borrowed" a shop in Arundel where she staged her own pop up show. Her work proved an instant hit, including purchase by the Duke Of Norfolk. One of our customers drew her work to our attention, we liked it, and we commissioned her to produce a new set of work for us. In the last two years, Emma’s paintings have sold successfully in our gallery, but have also been very popular in Edinburgh, Singapore, London and Bristol at art fairs.
The paintings, usually large canvases, are inspired by the natural world. As she says, “Imagine you're lying in a beautiful, natural meadow, your view screened by scented wild flowers that surround you. The flowers dance in intricate patterns to passing zephyrs. Through this verdant scene you glimpse distant views of the sea or a valley, but the real beauty of this setting is only inches from your gaze.” She paints with brushes, fingers, rags, anything, to create a sense of randomness and spontaneity. Her paintings are generally a mix of acrylic and oil.
Emma’s skill has developed strongly in the last two years. Whilst the paintings retain their joie de vivre and escapism, they have an increasing maturity and compositional strength.
