Tony Williams SWAc
About the artist:
Tony lives in North Devon.
Born in Wimbledon in 1946, Tony attended The Sutton Art School. He had a career in advertising, becoming Creative Director for a leading Agency. Tony started painting about twelve years ago and it is now his new lifetime’s work. He says, “I didn’t realise then that painting can become an obsession. As a graphic designer, I initially saw things in terms of dynamic shape and composition and almost devoid of colour, but you can’t get to grips with atmosphere without a lot of analysis of the colours and tonal strengths involved. Those subjects which seem the simplest, must be resolved in paint, quickly, to stay fresh.” Tony runs courses in oil painting in his Devon studio, students coming from national and international destinations.
Tony has established collectors in the UK and Europe He is an Academician of the South West Academy of Fine & Applied Arts. His work was selected for The Royal Society of Marine Artists’ Annual Exhibition 2015 and he also won the Charles Pears prize for the most outstanding work by a non-member. He also exhibits at The Royal Institute of Oil Painters annual show at The Mall Galleries.
