In Tune with Life
It’s now six years since Adrian Sykes, with his unique style, impinged on our consciousness. As a gallery we constantly search for something different, something exciting, something fresh. One doesn’t have to ponder long when an artist of really special talent introduces himself to you – Adrian Sykes hits that spot.
Adrian creates from his imagination as he works at his Bristol studio. As you browse these latest works, it’s apparent that geographic locations seed many of his paintings. Venice is a recurring theme, as are the old field patterns and hills of the English landscape which regularly provide a backdrop to his work.
But these are not just straightforward landscapes or townscapes, once they have been breathed on by Adrian’s fertile imagination. People are heading home to isolated houses, romantic trysts take place, often via impossibly long ladders; current trends such as wild swimming make their appearance, and busy happy scenes, in a park in a mill town, almost Lowry-esque in style, are explored.
As always, Adrian uses bold and warm oil colours applied liberally and in depth as he reveals his composition. He makes clever use of perspective, but is not a slave to it! This helps make his paintings accessible, giving the viewer constant small and agreeable surprises as their eye picks out unexpected details.
Since we first Exhibited Adrian’s paintings, his success, not I may say unexpectedly, has grown and grown. This is the fourth solo show we have staged of his work, as well as exhibiting successfully at Art Fairs we attend in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. This show is perhaps the most widely ranging in content. Oh, to have creative and artistic talent in such abundance!
