From 1965 to 1970 Andy studied painting at Croydon & Newport Colleges of Art, gaining a degree in Painting and Film in 1970. In 1977, having gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Maria Grey College of Further Education, he moved to Dorset and concentrated on painting full-time. He spent the last 14 years of his life living and working in East Sussex.
The paintings in watercolour, oil and acrylic can be described simply as seascapes or landscapes some with buildings and people. This description may sound mundane, prosaic even, however the pictures are anything but. The artist’s choice of subject, point of view and treatment is idiosyncratic. The finished works are highly detailed and realistic with a fine attention to detail. Tightly structured with a strong sense of design many of the paintings have a subtly implied narrative.
Andy Wood’s paintings are in numerous public and private collections including those of: The North Carolina Museum of History, Duke University, The Central Carolina Bank, The Chelsea Arts Club, Lyme Regis Museum and HM The Sultan of Oman, we are thrilled to exhibit his work in the Marine House Gallery
