Judy Hempstead SWAc
About the artist:
After qualifying in Fine Art at Newton Abbot College of Art, Judy obtained ATD Post Graduate Teaching Qualification from Goldsmiths, London. She then taught Art and went on to become a Lecturer at Exeter College. In 1998 she decided to dedicate her time to being a full-time artist. Judy’s work reflects her keen interest in mysticism and sense of history and drama to be found in the rugged South West coast line. Her uncontrollable fear of heights and fascination with the natural elements is reflected in her dramatic work. She is intrigued with the landscapes surface texture and uses mixed media, often collages with watercolour and tissue paper to recreate this.
Judy is an Honorary Member of the South West Academy. Her work is collected in the UK, Canada and on the Continent. She undertook many private portrait commissions before gravitating towards her outstanding landscape depictions. In addition to being an accomplished saxophonist, Judy’s popularity is rapidly growing as a respected artist.
