About the artist:
Laurel studied ceramics at Exeter College of Art and Design and set up her first workshop in Devon in 1977.
She creates thrown, coiled and turned pottery. Porcelain slips are applied and the design, if any, is incised. After the biscuit firing, the surfaces are inlaid with metal oxides, a matt glaze applied, and the work is fired to 1260oC. Gold lustre is then applied and the work refired a third time.
Laurel has exhibited at many galleries throughout the U.K. including London. She is a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts and is a Selection Committee Member of both.
Laurel’s work is always exciting, whether it be amusing and witty or elegant and sculptured. One of Devon’s finest potters.
