About the artist:
EXPLORING DEVON’S JURASSIC COAST AND COUNTRYSIDE
(With trips to London and Venice)
Mike Bernard has worked closely with Marine House for almost twenty years. The popularity of his solo shows never dims; this is his eleventh!
What is the secret of Mike’s success? His skill is evident, the product of top professional training at The Royal Academy Schools where he was a multiple award winner. But technique alone does not suffice nor his recognition as a fellow of The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
Mike’s genius rests on his creative instinct for composition choosing unusual angles to present familiar and much loved places and then applying his own unique painting style to bring the composition to life. This he achieves using a collage technique mixing media such as tissue paper, newsprint, acrylics, inks and cuttings from printed matter often with local relevance. Clever details and painterly marks often emerge for the viewer months after first seeing the painting!
Mike just brings locations alive with their individual moods be it, for example, a holiday feel or central city buzz. His works have spontaneity and rest very much in the impressionist camp.
For this his eleventh solo show at Marine House, his lead gallery, he has crafted new views of favourite coastal spots especially in East Devon such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Axmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Topsham and Lympstone. These he has augmented with several classic London and Venice scenes completing the set with three still lifes.
Mike’s recognition as a leading British artist continues to grow. His reputation constantly widens as we regularly exhibit his work in London, Singapore and Hong Kong.
This show simply reinforces Mike Bernard’s reputation as a distinguished and inventive artist.
