Susan Bower ROI RBA
About the artist:
Before embarking upon her path as an oil painter, Susan Bower graduated in Biology and Psychology. Realising her commitment to painting she was taught by fellow Yorkshire artist William Selby and took up painting professionally in 1985. She has developed a unique painterly interpretation of witty observations of life. Her use of oils creates an intrinsic development of colour and she paints in a spontaneous, unconventional format. Her paintings take on a life of their own, resulting in tableaux of life that often make sharp comments on people and the human condition.
Susan was elected as a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) in 1992 and to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1998. She has exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the Mall Galleries and has won many awards including the Alan Gourley Memorial Award at the ROI in 2000.
