Transcript:

Philip Raskin was born in 1947 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He then entered the world of business and became well known as the proprietor of The Inn on the Green, a celebrated jazz restaurant in Glasgow over which he and his wife presided. He never lost contact with the world of art, however, as the venue doubled up as a quality gallery with a full programme of exhibitions and private views.

Working with acrylic paint, he has quickly established a singular and distinctive style in which he exploits the medium’s most robust impasto qualities along with its most sensitive and delicate more usually associated with water colour. The effect is capture magically the mood and light of his native Scotland. He says, “I tend to paint very private places for the viewer to own and enjoy – no houses, no telegraph poles, no signs of man’s imposition on the landscape; just the driftwood of an ebb tide and silence broken only by the lapping of water and gulls ascending.”
